CBD Black Friday Campaign

The federal limit of 0.4 mg of THC per container is scheduled to start on December 11, 2026, 11 days after Cyber Monday. How to plan a CBD Black Friday campaign around it: your catalog, 35 ideas, payments, ads, shipping, emails and what you can't say.

CBD Black Friday Campaign

Key takeaways

  • The federal limit of 0.4 mg of total THC per container is scheduled to start on December 11, 2026, 11 days after Cyber Monday, so sort your catalog with your attorney before you plan any offer.
  • Check subscriptions, back-orders, gift cards and wholesale stock against that date, because those orders can cross the line after the campaign ends.
  • Shopify Payments doesn't support hemp or CBD, and Stripe treats CBD as a restricted business, so confirm your volume and the new rules with your processor in writing.
  • Meta and Google ads need LegitScript certification and platform approval, so most brands build this campaign on email, search, their store and social posts.
  • Keep health claims out of every rushed banner and subject line, and make sure each former price and each deadline is real.

A CBD Black Friday campaign is how an online hemp or CBD brand prepares for the busiest shopping days of the year, from Thanksgiving on November 26 to Cyber Monday on November 30. US shoppers spent $44.2 billion online in those five days of 2025, according to Adobe, including $11.8 billion on Black Friday and a record $14.25 billion on Cyber Monday. Adobe doesn’t break out CBD, but those are the habits your customers bring to your store.

This year the calendar has a second date on it. A federal law limits legal hemp products to 0.4 milligrams of total THC per container, and a September funding bill moved the start from November 12 to December 11, 2026, as Foley Hoag explains. That falls 11 days after Cyber Monday, so what you sell, how long you can ship it and who renews after that date all belong in the plan. Here are the steps, 35 ideas and the rules on payments, ads, shipping and claims.

What the December 11 hemp limit means for your CBD Black Friday

We aren’t lawyers, and this is moving fast, so read this section as the list of questions to take to yours. Here is what has been published so far:

  • The limit is per container. The new definition sets a maximum of 0.4 mg of total THC, including THCA, per container, as Dykema’s attorneys summarize it. The count covers the whole bottle or tin, whatever the serving size.
  • Full-spectrum products are exposed. Foley Hoag names full-spectrum CBD among the products the threshold essentially bans. Hemp Law Group says the law doesn’t name CBD and can still reach CBD products that contain THC, depending on formula and interpretation.
  • Some products have an earlier date. Foley Hoag says synthetic cannabinoids the plant can’t produce on its own keep the November 12 date.
  • The current rules apply until then. Hemp Law Group says the prior federal rules stay in place until the new date. Your state’s rules can be stricter.
  • Another delay is an unsafe bet. Dykema reports the administration has said there will be no further extensions, and Hemp Law Group said on October 19 that bills moving the date to 2028 were still in committee. Foley Hoag notes that President Trump has urged Congress to update the law on full-spectrum CBD.

Plan for December 11, and ask your attorney to tell you if the date moves.

Start your CBD Black Friday campaign with your catalog

Open the current certificate of analysis for every product and work out the total THC in the whole container: the amount per milliliter or per serving, multiplied by the size of the container. Then sort each product into one of three groups with your attorney.

Group What’s in it What to do in the campaign
Stays Products your lab results and your attorney confirm are under the limit. The core of your offers, subscriptions and gift sets.
Changes Products you’re reformulating to meet the limit. Tell customers what changes and when, and offer early access to the new version.
Leaves Products above the limit with no new version. Ask your attorney for the last date to sell and ship them, and take them out of anything that renews or ships after that date.

Then look at the orders that could cross the line. These are the ones a normal Black Friday plan never has to think about:

  • Subscriptions that renew after December 11.
  • Back-orders and pre-orders that ship late.
  • Gift cards and store credit used after the date.
  • Returns and exchanges on products you no longer carry.
  • Stock sitting with your wholesale accounts.

Check payments, ads, shipping and claims for your CBD Black Friday

A CBD Black Friday offer can be perfect and still fail on any of these. Each one takes weeks to fix, so check them before you design anything.

Payments

Stripe prohibits CBD products above the local legal THC limit and lists those with negligible THC as restricted: they need extra due diligence, and approval can be changed or revoked. Shopify Payments doesn’t support hemp, CBD or THC products. Shopify points to third-party providers such as DigiPay and Bankful, which decide for themselves after looking at your product type, business age, transaction history, volume and product mix.

Tell your processor this week how much volume you expect, ask about reserves and monthly limits, and ask in writing what changes on December 11. Decide what you’ll do if your account is paused that weekend. It’s the first conversation we’d have with any CBD store: for The Tennessee Hemp Company, we built the WooCommerce store and set up payments with Flex Payment Solutions.

Ads

Paid ads are a narrow door. Meta accepts ads for CBD with no more than 0.3% THC only from advertisers with active LegitScript certification and Meta’s written authorization, in the United States, to people 18 or older and with no health claims. Google asks topical, non-pharmaceutical CBD advertisers for LegitScript certification and its own CBD certification, and limits targeting to California, Colorado and Puerto Rico. If you don’t hold those today, build your CBD Black Friday campaign on email, search, your store and social posts, and apply for next season.

Organic posts have limits too. Meta’s Community Standards show posts that try to sell ingestible CBD to adults only. Our guide to cannabis social media marketing covers TikTok and X as well.

Shipping

USPS Publication 52 allows hemp and CBD products in domestic mail only when the mailer complies with federal, state and local law and keeps records such as lab results, licenses and compliance reports for at least three years. International mail and military and diplomatic addresses are out. The section still cites the 0.3% limit, so watch for updates as December 11 approaches, and ask any other carrier for its rules in writing. Set shipping zones with your attorney, so the cart blocks the states you can’t serve.

What your CBD Black Friday copy can say

CBD Black Friday copy gets written fast, which is when claims slip in. The FDA says a product intended for a therapeutic or medical use is a drug, that CBD products are excluded from the dietary supplement definition and that food with added CBD can’t be shipped across state lines, and it has sent warning letters over claims like these. Take words such as treats, cures, relieves and prevents out of every banner, subject line and product page, and raise any edible products with your attorney.

Anything that looks like candy or appeals to minors stays out too. The FTC and FDA have sent cease-and-desist letters over delta-8 THC products made to look like popular snacks.

Prices and subscriptions

A “was” price has to be real. Under 16 CFR 233.1, a former price must be one you offered the public on a regular basis for a reasonably substantial time, and an inflated reference price is deceptive. Subscriptions fall under 15 U.S.C. 8403: clear disclosure of the terms before you take billing details, express consent before you charge and a simple way to stop.

12 CBD Black Friday offers to choose from

There is no published benchmark for CBD discounts that we would trust. Adobe’s peak Cyber Monday discounts ran from 17% on sporting goods to 31% on electronics, which shows what shoppers see elsewhere and says nothing about your margin. Set your margin floor by product first, then pick one main CBD Black Friday offer and one for Cyber Monday.

  1. A tiered cart offer. A better price at higher cart values, so a deeper reduction comes with a bigger order.
  2. Free shipping over a set amount. Easy to explain, easy to show in the cart and gentler on your margin than a sitewide cut.
  3. A starter kit. Small sizes of your best sellers at one price, for people trying the brand for the first time.
  4. Build your own set. Customers choose three products and pay a set price.
  5. Gift sets. Packed and ready to give, and still on sale through December.
  6. A gift with purchase. A tin, a travel pouch or a branded item, tied to a cart value, with no THC to count.
  7. Early access for subscribers. The offer opens 24 hours sooner for your email list.
  8. A CBD Cyber Monday exclusive. A size or set sold only that day, so Monday has its own reason to buy.
  9. Subscribe and save. Only on products that stay in your line after December 11, with clear terms and a simple way to cancel.
  10. First look at the new formula. Early access to a reformulated product for the people already buying the old one.
  11. A January credit. In place of a deeper price now, a credit valid from January on products that stay in your line.
  12. A wholesale offer. For the dispensaries and shops that carry you: a case offer plus images and captions for their own campaigns. Point them to our guide to a dispensary Black Friday campaign.

If some products are on their way out, ask your attorney how to word the last sale and how long it can run. Plain wording about what’s changing serves you better than a countdown built on the law.

10 ways to get your store ready for CBD Black Friday

A shopper who can’t hold the product needs every answer on the page, and during CBD Black Friday they have less patience for looking. Use the next weeks on what closes the sale.

  1. Lab results next to the buy button. The certificate of analysis for the current batch, one tap away, with the THC per container easy to find.
  2. A recurring Black Friday page. Google recommends publishing it well before the sale, on an address with no year in it, linked from your home page.
  3. Checkout tested on phones. Adobe says 57.5% of Cyber Monday 2025 spending came from phones. Buy something from your own store on a phone, from start to finish.
  4. Speed. Google’s Core Web Vitals ask for the main content within 2.5 seconds and a response to a tap within 200 milliseconds. Heavy campaign banners are the usual problem.
  5. Age verification that works on a phone. Test it at the door and at checkout, on the same phones.
  6. Shipping shown early. Delivery dates, costs and blocked states in the cart, before the last step.
  7. Discount codes tested. Exclude the products that need excluding, block stacking and try each code before the campaign opens.
  8. A fast way to hide a product. When a rule changes or your attorney calls, a product or a whole category should come down in minutes.
  9. Answers ready. Shipping times, returns, what changes on December 11 and how to read a lab report, on one page.
  10. Someone on support. Name who answers messages and watches payments from Thursday night to Monday.

7 emails for your CBD Black Friday campaign

Before the first send, ask your email platform for its position in writing. Klaviyo’s policy reserves the right to restrict uses related to controlled substances, and Mailchimp’s puts herbal and nutritional supplements under additional review. Gmail wants spam rates under 0.3%, and the CAN-SPAM Act wants honest subject lines, your postal address and opt-outs honored within 10 business days.

  1. Monday, November 16: “Black Friday starts early for this list.” What’s coming, and a reason for readers to stay on the list.
  2. Monday, November 23: “What’s changing on December 11, and what it means for your order.” A plain note from the founder on the new federal limit and your line.
  3. Wednesday, November 25: “You’re in: early access opens tomorrow.” The time it opens and what’s included.
  4. Thursday, November 26: “Early access is open.” Sent in the evening, with one button.
  5. Friday, November 27: “Black Friday: what’s on and when it ends.” The whole offer, the end date and shipping times.
  6. Sunday, November 29: “Tomorrow only: our Cyber Monday set.” The one product or offer that belongs to Monday.
  7. Monday, November 30: “Last hours for Cyber Monday.” Send it only if the deadline is real.

Behind your CBD Cyber Monday and Black Friday sends, keep three automatic emails running: a reminder for abandoned carts, a thank-you after every order with how to read the lab results, and an invitation to review a few days later.

6 content ideas for hemp Black Friday

These give people a reason to find you and trust you before your CBD Black Friday offer opens. None of them needs a discount.

  1. How to read a certificate of analysis. A short video or carousel, and a page on your site.
  2. A founder’s note on the new rules. What changes, what stays and how you tested it.
  3. Behind the scenes. Packing orders, testing batches and the people who do it.
  4. A holiday gift guide. An article on your blog that links to your gift sets, with no health claims. Our guide to cannabis content marketing shows how to plan it.
  5. Creators, with disclosure. The FTC’s Disclosures 101 says creators must disclose free or discounted products and any payment. Give each one a code, so you can see what they bring in.
  6. A post about the list. What subscribers get first, and a link to sign up.

After CBD Cyber Monday: the 11 days before the new limit

Most retail campaigns end on Monday night. Yours has one more job, because the days from December 1 to December 10 decide how cleanly you reach the new rules, and how many of your new customers stay with you after them.

  • A last-order email. The last date to order each product that is leaving, based on your attorney’s advice and your real shipping times.
  • A note to every subscriber. What they receive after December 11, whether it changes and how to stop or switch.
  • A word to wholesale accounts. What you will stop shipping, what replaces it and what your attorney says about stock already on their shelves.
  • A review of your pages. Take down what your attorney tells you to, and send each old address to the closest product that stays, so people and Google don’t land on an error.
  • A thank-you with no offer. New customers hear from you once without being sold to, along with how to read the lab report for what they bought.
  • A review invitation. A few days after delivery, with no reward attached.

Your CBD Black Friday countdown

When What gets done
Right now Sort the catalog with your attorney. Call your processor. Set your margin floor by product.
By Friday, November 13 Offers chosen, Black Friday page live and linked from your home page, email platform confirmed.
By Friday, November 20 Emails written and scheduled, product pages updated, codes tested, creators briefed.
November 23 to 25 Checkout tested on phones, stock counted, support schedule set, early-access list closed.
November 26 to 30 Run the CBD Black Friday campaign. Watch payments, stock and messages every day.
December 1 to 10 Thank-you email and last shipping dates. Stop renewals on products that are leaving, and tell your wholesale accounts what’s changing.
Friday, December 11 The new federal limit is scheduled to start. Take down what your attorney tells you to.

How to measure your CBD Black Friday campaign

Sales alone will flatter a week of CBD Black Friday discounts. Track these by day and compare them with an average week before the campaign:

  • Orders, sales after discounts and average discount rate.
  • Margin by product and by offer.
  • New customers against returning ones.
  • Conversion on phones against desktop.
  • Abandoned carts and failed payments.
  • Sales you can trace to each email, creator code and page.
  • Unsubscribes and spam rate.
  • New customers who order again by the end of January.

That last number decides whether the week was worth its discounts, because a customer who comes back pays for the first offer.

CBD Black Friday mistakes to avoid

  • Selling a subscription on a product that leaves on December 11. Check every renewal date against your catalog groups.
  • Waiting to call your processor. Ask about volume and the new rules before the rush, in writing.
  • Letting health claims into the urgency. A rushed subject line is still a claim.
  • Inflating the “was” price. The FTC calls that fictitious.
  • Building the campaign around ads you can’t run. Check the certifications first.
  • A fake deadline. If the offer comes back on Tuesday, your list will remember it.
  • Burying the lab results. They answer the question a careful buyer asks first.
  • Stopping on Cyber Monday. The weeks up to December 11 need their own messages.

Where to start with your CBD Black Friday campaign

Start with the catalog: one spreadsheet with every product, its total THC per container and its group. Offers, emails and subscriptions all depend on it, and so does the conversation with your attorney and your processor.

If you want a team on it, our cannabis ecommerce team builds stores on WooCommerce, Shopify or fully custom, with payment options that accept CBD, age verification and lab results for every batch. Most websites launch in six to eight weeks, and our clients own 100% of the design and code, so a new store is a project for next season, while the product pages and the campaign page can move now. For the rest of the year, our 2027 cannabis marketing calendar lists the dates that sell, each with a campaign idea and an email subject line.

Frequently asked questions

  • It is the plan an online CBD or hemp brand follows from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday: which products to feature, the offers, payments, shipping, the email sequence, a page on the website and how to measure the results. In 2026 it also has to account for the new federal hemp limit.

  • Black Friday is November 27 and Cyber Monday is November 30, 2026. Thanksgiving is November 26, Small Business Saturday is November 28 and Giving Tuesday is December 1.

  • A September 2026 funding bill moved the start of the limit of 0.4 milligrams of total THC per container from November 12 to December 11, 2026, according to Foley Hoag. Synthetic cannabinoids the plant can't produce on its own keep the November 12 date. Confirm the current status with your attorney.

  • It can. Hemp Law Group says the law doesn't name CBD but can reach CBD products that contain THC, depending on formula and interpretation, and Foley Hoag names full-spectrum CBD among the products affected. Check the certificate of analysis for each product and ask your attorney.

  • Per container. Work out the total THC in the whole bottle or tin from your certificate of analysis: the amount per milliliter or per serving, multiplied by the size of the container.

  • Hemp Law Group says the prior federal rules apply until the new date, but your state's rules can be stricter and the answer depends on your product. Ask your attorney for the last date to sell and to ship each product above the limit.

  • Any subscription that renews after the date needs a decision. Move customers to a product that stays in your line or stop the renewal, and tell them in plain words. Federal law also requires clear terms, express consent and a simple way to cancel.

  • Nobody can say. Dykema reports the administration has said there will be no further extensions, and Hemp Law Group said on October 19, 2026 that bills moving the date to 2028 were still in committee. Plan for December 11 and ask your attorney to tell you if it moves.

  • Only with active LegitScript certification and Meta's written authorization, for CBD with no more than 0.3% THC, in the United States, to people 18 or older and with no health claims. Organic posts that try to sell ingestible CBD are shown to adults only.

  • Only in a narrow way. Google asks topical, non-pharmaceutical CBD advertisers for LegitScript certification and its own CBD certification, and limits targeting to California, Colorado and Puerto Rico.

  • No. Shopify says Shopify Payments doesn't support hemp, CBD or THC products and points to third-party providers such as DigiPay and Bankful, which approve stores at their own discretion.

  • Stripe prohibits CBD products with THC above the local legal limit and lists those with negligible THC as restricted, which means extra due diligence and an approval that can be changed or revoked. Ask before you plan on it.

  • USPS Publication 52 allows hemp and CBD products in domestic mail when the mailer complies with federal, state and local law and keeps records such as lab results for at least three years. International mail and military and diplomatic addresses are not allowed.

  • There is no published benchmark we would trust for CBD. Good options to test are a tiered cart offer, free shipping over a set amount, a starter kit, gift sets, early access for subscribers and a product sold only on Cyber Monday.

  • Start from your margin by product instead of from a competitor's number. Adobe's peak Cyber Monday discounts in 2025 ran from 17% on sporting goods to 31% on electronics, which shows what shoppers see elsewhere and says nothing about what you can afford.

  • That is a risk you should avoid. The FDA says a product intended for a therapeutic or medical use is a drug, and it has sent warning letters over such claims. Keep words like treats, cures, relieves and prevents out of your campaign.

  • Only if it is real. Under 16 CFR 233.1, a former price must be one you offered the public on a regular basis for a reasonably substantial time. An inflated price set to advertise a bigger reduction is deceptive.

  • It helps, because your emails and posts need one place to send people. Google recommends publishing it well before the sale, on an address with no year in it, linked from your home page.

  • Ask them in writing. Klaviyo's policy reserves the right to restrict uses related to controlled substances, and Mailchimp's puts herbal and nutritional supplements under additional review. Confirm before you build your sequence on either.

  • There is no official number. This guide plans seven from November 16 to November 30, plus three automatic emails: an abandoned cart reminder, a thank-you after each order and a review invitation.

  • Track orders, sales after discounts, margin by product, new against returning customers, phone conversion, failed payments and unsubscribes. The number that decides whether it was worth it is how many new customers order again by the end of January.

  • Probably not if you start now: most of our websites launch in six to eight weeks. Product pages, lab results and a campaign page on your current store can move now, and the new store becomes a project for next season.
